Custom Kitchen Cabinets
Choosing the right cabinetry for your kitchen can seem a bit overwhelming considering the sheer number of cabinet types, quality levels, finishes and styles available today. At Different By Design, Inc. we will work with you to craft the kitchen of your dreams with custom cabinets that match your space and needs perfectly.
Types of Cabinets
There are four basic types of kitchen cabinets to choose from:
Base cabinets are a standard 24" deep and 36" tall, although some semi-custom cabinets can be a bit deeper.
Wall cabinetry is usually 12" to 17" deep and it is mounted to the wall.
Tall cabinets are usually 83.5" tall and they work as pantry storage.
Specialty units can be any size. This includes sink fronts, corner cabinets, bottle racks, hutches and more.
Kitchen Cabinet Styles
There are many, many styles of cabinetry. You may want a kitchen that falls into one specific design style, or you may want cabinets that combine specific elements of different styles. You may even want a design all your own, which is where custom cabinets come in. The following are some of the most popular kitchen styles.
Arts and Crafts Kitchen Cabinets
Arts and Crafts kitchen cabinets are characterized by their straight, simple lines, little ornamentation and detail, and rugged construction. This style came into popularity in the late 19th century in response to the poor quality over-produced assembly line furniture that was popular at the time.
Contemporary Kitchen Cabinets
Contemporary kitchen cabinets have little detail and flat surfaces. Most materials in contemporary kitchens are man-made and include glass, plastic, metal and concrete.
Cottage Kitchen Cabinets
A cottage kitchen is slightly more feminine than a rustic kitchen, and it usually has a farmhouse sink, simple molding, and painting cabinets in white or pastel shades. Cottage kitchen cabinetry often incorporates open shelving and glass doors.
Country Kitchen Cabinets
Country kitchens are hard-working and look lived-in. This type of cabinetry is often painted and glazed and paired with a farmhouse sink, beadboard panels and open shelving.
Craftsman Kitchen Cabinets
Craftsman kitchen cabinets are known for their straight lines, heavy proportions and few details. Craftsman style cabinets are very high in quality and built to last a lifetime.
Why Custom Cabinets?
Custom cabinetry is made to order and it is available in the widest number of materials, styles, finishes and accessories. Bring out the natural beauty of wood. Stain finishes are protected by a satin finish top-coat, which is oven cured, providing a superior seal. Visit our door gallery to see the finish offering on specific door styles.
Glaze and Highlight
Our Glaze and Highlight option offers the subtle color and appearance shift from the glaze process with the bold accent lines achieved in the highlight application. This finish is achieved by spraying glaze over the sealed base stain or paint color then wiping it off by hand, altering the overall color and appearance. Learn more about the glaze and highlight process and visit the door gallery to see the finish offerings on specific door styles.
Classic Paint is a lustrous enamel finish which provides solid coverage and a smooth satin sheen. Heirloom Paint is an enamel base coat accented with a hand-wiped glaze, random distressing and sand through, which creates the wear and patina of heirloom furniture (not available on MDF).
Give your cabinetry character with a specialty finish. The Coastal Collection is inspired by the colors of the coast. These color-washed stains with subtle dry-brushed accents allow the natural beauty and characteristics of the wood to show through. The Coastal Collection colors are also available in sheer, with no dry-brushing. The Stoney Brooke Collection evokes a vision of a mountain stream and the natural beauty of rocks that withstand years of weathering, only to emerge more beautiful. Each stone is unique and striking in appearance; nature creates subtle shades and textures of browns and grays. Vineyard is a deep red finish accented by a black brush glazed finish. The Appaloosa Collection features a unique timeworn finish inspired by weathered wood tones in shades of white, gray and brown with glaze detail and distressing elements. Specialty finish availability varies, visit our door gallery to see the finish offering on specific door styles.
Distressing uses a variety of techniques to create a unique appearance. Antique and Legacy distressing availability varies by door style.
